POSITION SUMMARY

Job Description:

Job Title: Social Advisor

Type of Contract: Full-time employment position (Open-end Contract)

Department: Program Department

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand (with occasional work trips to Bangkok and Thai border regions for field research)

Expected Start Date: November 2024 

Your Mission

Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 


1. SOCIAL WORK WITH BENEFICIARIES


CHILD PROTECTION AND EMERGENCY SUPPORT 

  • Identify (through regular outreach) and assess beneficiaries’ needs, in line with the Individual Support Program (ISP) SOP;

  • Provide beneficiaries with counselling to support decision-making, mental health, risk management, etc.

  • Ensure regular and effective follow-up by providing beneficiaries with psychological/emotional support, healthcare support, business/legal counselling, help to identify family objectives and plan etc.;

  • Work in collaboration with local partners to allow referrals whenever relevant

  • Support in designing tools and implementing activities (such as life skills) dedicated to improving the beneficiaries' living situation and facilitating their future autonomy; 

  • Provide emergency support, including donations, as required.

  • Provide training to the parents on financial literacy, positive parenting, etc.;and, 

  • Work with Child Protection Officer on highly critical cases;



SUPPORT COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT  

Working with Community Empowerment Team to: 

  • ensure community assessments are complete and up to date on Salesforce at all times; Verify all data completed bi-annually through surveys in the communities;

  • Run  complementary community needs assessments in key areas as needed, including infrastructure, education, health, safety, etc.;

  • Develop and implement with the community members ‘community action plans’ to address needs identified, with the support of Peer leaders and companies;

  • Help translate during the awareness sessions in communities;

  • Support the Program Manager in charge of the coordination of the community empowerment , women empowerment activities (scheduling of training and activities, planification, etc.

  • Provide life skills training to the peer educator and parents; and,

SUPPORT CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Working with Child Development Team to: 

  • Identify life skill topics needed in their communities and coordinate with Child Development Officers to implement child development activities;

  • Identify critical cases that require nursery support in line with Nursery Standard Operating Procedure (SOP);  


2. PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND COORDINATION

  • Conduct research and report on data needed to support Baan Dek activities. Elaborate on qualitative monitoring on activities run with beneficiaries. 

  • Develop and deliver trainings with local team members and local communities, after approval from Baan Dek Management team. Participate in internal and/or external training proposed by management. Train beneficiaries on activities related to project implementation (e.g. Stop Violence Now, Migrant Empowerment Project, etc.)

  • Support the Management team in the design, implementation, evaluation of the activities of Baan Dek Foundation by targeting the most vulnerable children and families in Chiang Mai and throughout Thailand if relevant

  • In order to reach children and families in need, the employee will engage the team in high-quality social work, make sure field work is extensively undertaken to reach the beneficiaries where they are and help them as individuals and as communities.

  • Provide feedback, support development and implement the overall monitoring system for activities in Chiang Mai, as well as throughout Thailand. 

  • Contribute to developing network and relations with local partners that are relevant to the projects in consideration



3. MONITORING AND REPORTING

  • Complete weekly schedule and report according to the organization’s deadlines;

  • Report on the beneficiaries’ needs and the follow-up action held (home visits, activities, meetings, phone calls, …) and organizing the information in the beneficiaries' Salesforce contact record;

  • Work along BDF Child Protection Policy and report on any situation involving a child at risk or harm 1. immediately to management and 2. within 24 hours through a written report.

  • Maintain up-to-date information on beneficiaries through regular monitoring, ensuring information is updated by assigned deadlines; and,

  • Discuss the situation of the beneficiaries with the field staff and the management team at least once a week (meetings organized by BDF management team) and as often as required according to the emergency level of each kid's situation.

Your Profile

Qualifications

Nationality: Thai (Native)

Language requirements: Proficient in spoken English and Thai. Knowledge of Burmese and Shan (Tai Yai) is an asset.

Education/ Experience:  

  • B.A in Social Science, Social Administration, or equivalent 

  • Experience working with Government, Non-Government Organizations


 Other skills and competencies:

  • Good interpersonal Skills

  • Case Management Skills 


Working hours: Full time - Monday to Friday with occasional weekend and evenings

Salary & Compensation: To be defined based on experience and qualifications

BDF's core mission is to provide access to education, health, and social services to the most vulnerable children living in urban slums and construction site camps in Thailand.
